The Alderney Wildlife Trust has been extraordinarily lucky to have received the support of two great patrons over the years. Our thanks go out to Miranda and George for all they do to help our island.
Dr George McGavin
George is an Honorary Research Associate of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, a Research Associate of the Department of Zoology at Oxford University. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society, The Royal Geographical Society and an Honorary Fellow of the Society of Biology. George is a regular contributor to radio and television programmes and has written numerous books on insects and other animals.
George offered his support to the AWT in 2008 and has visited the island, running events for adults and children alike regularly since then, helping to grow our understanding of Alderney's wildlife, especially its insects.
Miranda Krestovnikoff
Miranda has been presenting nationwide natural history stories on the show for the last 5 years. A biologist and diver she is one of the original Coast team members, and is now a regular on BBC Radio 4’s Costing the Earth, Living World and Tweet of the Day.
She is an accomplished musician and great lover of classical music and so was delighted to be able to present the BBC Proms 2010.
Miranda took on the role of AWT Patron in 2007 and has become a regular contributor to the Wildlife Festival in August, which she attends with her husband and two children Oliver and Amelie. She became President of the RSPB in October 2013, though she promises to keep coming to Alderney!
