Volunteer Staff
The AWT is only able to achieve much of what it undertakes because of our placement volunteers, who work in key staff roles for the organisation. We are incredibly proud of all the placement staff who have worked with us and are very pleased to see many of them progress rapidly within the conservation sector. Though the AWT is unable to pay directly it does attempt to support its volunteers wherever possible by covering accommodation costs and we have links with a number of organisations and businesses which offer additional paid work on island. There is also likely to be some work available guiding walks and tours.
What could I do with the AWT?
There are several types of residential volunteering which you might consider:
- Short term volunteer - helping with the day-to-day activities, including practical conservation work, surveying and events (subject to availability) for a limited period usually between 1 week and 2 months. People taking on this role include those on work placements, through to retirees who want to experience something different. You must be over 18.
- Medium term placement - taking on a shorter term contract for the AWT in roles such as our Living Seas Officer, supporting and working with a member of the AWT's permanent staff. Popular with graduates and for placements at university level.
- Long term placement - taking on a staff role for the AWT and committing to work for us on a contract, with project responsibility for a range of work in a range of roles. Popular with graduates and post graduates, offers a chance to take on high levels of responsibility.
